  6. REQUIRED COURSES � English 8 � Social Studies 8 � Math � Earth Science * � Pre-Algebra 8 or w/ Lab (alt. day) � Algebra 1 H * *Algebra & Earth Science - Students can earn 1 high school credit for each class & will take a Regents exam for each class in June.

  7. WHAT IS SELF-SELECT? � Self-Select means that students in 8 th Grade can elect to do honors level work in their regular courses. Students will have the option to choose Self-Select in up to three of their main academic classes at the start of the school year. � Self-Select is offered in English, Social Studies, & Earth Science ONLY . � Self-Select will require additional work, assignments, projects, etc. � In order to be placed in Honors level courses for 9 th Grade at South High, students in Self-Select classes will need to maintain a 90% average & teacher recommendation. � Non self-select students will require a 95% average & teacher recommendation to be placed into honors level courses.
