Film Making. It is not only a field of study and a career path that I chose in 1999 when I started my undergraduate degree, but it is also my passion since I was a kid. At that time I didn’t know much about how movies were made, but still liked them. I was attracted to different settings of movies; story, actors and

  • music. As time went by my passion in film became more advanced and started

to look at films more critically asking myself; how did they do that? Or how they did this? After I finished studying high school, I decided to study film and made my childhood dream true. Therefore, I chose to be a filmmaker; howev- er, it is not just a dream now, It is a reality, the reality that reveals the image of

  • ne side of the coin and tells the story of the un-heard side.

Through my undergraduate study and another four years of practical experience as a studio supervisor at Yarmouk University where I got my BA

  • degree. I learned that movies are a powerful tool in revealing truth and the

honesty of story telling. On the other hand, it might change the truth and represent it in whole different way. As a filmmaker from the Middle East, which is mostly misinterpreted in media and movies. I felt that I have a duty to become one of which who would reveal truth through movies. I came to SCAD to become more well-rounded and refine my skills. My next step is to continue my academic journey and earn some valuable experience through getting a PhD degree. Eventually, this would help me to leave a mark on shaping the next generation of filmmakers in the Middle East so they would represent it in an honest way. Mohammad Al-Affan
