The Georgia Milestones Assessment System (Georgia Milestones) is a comprehensive summative assessment program spanning grades 3 through high school. Georgia Milestones measures how well students have learned the knowledge and skills outlined in the state-adopted content standards in language arts, mathematics, science, and social
content area, while high school students will take an end-of-course assessment for each of the eight courses designated by the State Board of Education. Features the Georgia Milestone Assessment System include:

The 14-15 test was a baseline test. Student results were not used as 20% of the student’s course grade. While there was not an “opt-out” process, Riverwood and Fulton Schools respected a parent’s desire to remove a student from the testing environment Several hundred students brought in notes or had their parents send email asking them not to be tested. Some students opted out of Milestones testing having already completed the first section of the test Information was shared with parent groups, SGC meetings, and in communication that while 14-15 Milestone results would not count as a part of a student’s course grade, the results would count towards Riverwood’s rating from the Georgia Department of Education (CCRPI) It is the belief of the Riverwood leadership that these results do not indicate an accurate assessment of what our student’s learned during the 14-15 school year

Scoring codes are given for students who receive no points
Students must earn a 70 or higher in final course grade to pass the course and earn credit for graduation The EOC comprises 20% of the course grade The EOC is calculated in the completion of the 2nd semester except in cases where the course is a one semester course. If a student is absent or does not take the EOC on the day of the test and misses all make-up
· The student may receive an INCOMPLETE and take the EOC during the next available testing window A school may issue a “zero” for an EOC grade in lieu of a test administration after the next main administration · Students have until the end of the next main administration to make-up the EOC What if a parent requests to “opt out” their child from testing? · In GA, there is no “opt out” process. Schools are required by state to annually assess all enrolled students. The GA Milestones measures fulfill this mandate for students enrolled in grades 9-12. The state requires that all students must be offered the opportunity to test. · While we will not offer alternate activities during testing, we will honor the request and offer an alternate location within the school for the student · Fulton is obligated to follow all state rules regarding placement, promotion, and grading that surround GA Milestones The EOC will be counted as 20% of the course grade. EOC Results will be recorded on the Student Transcript
