Case Study: • Previously Healthy 12 year old female girl arrived at ED with 3 day history of headache, lethargy and fever of 103ºF • Recent onset of nausea and vomiting • Patient history of swimming in warm Florida freshwater • CT scan of her head was normal • Lab results: Increased WBC’s and anemia in CBC • Lumber puncture performed: CSF revealed increased WBC’s, mainly Neutrophils • Gram Stain in Microbiology and Wright stain in Hematology department revealed the following microscopic images:
