Case Study:

Previously Healthy 12 year old female girl arrived at ED with 3 day

history of headache, lethargy and fever of 103ºF

Recent onset of nausea and vomiting
Patient history of swimming in warm Florida freshwater
CT scan of her head was normal
Lab results: Increased WBC’s and anemia in CBC
Lumber puncture performed: CSF revealed increased WBC’s,

mainly Neutrophils
