Physical Building Security
School Safety & Security Improvements Completed in Recent Years
Larger improvements funded through Capital Budget
Approved by Board of Education and Town Council
Cheshire received Round 1 & 2 School Security Reimbursement Grants ($170k)
Reimbursements were allocated to make additional improvements
Physical improvements to buildings and infrastructure
Such as Doors, Locks, Windows…
Permanent Emergency Generator at Cheshire High School
Beginning Fall 2018 – generator attachment capability at other schools
Security booth at Cheshire High School
Communication and Building Surveillance
Such as Telephone and Paging Systems…
Enhanced Video Surveillance and building monitoring capabilities
2 way radios to be further enhanced with town-wide radio upgrades
Physical Building Security
Improvement Strategy to get us to the next level has been a priority
Security Review of all buildings began this past Fall has been completed
Independent security firm, Police, Fire and School Officials participated
Cheshire approved for a Round 3 School Security Reimbursement Grant
Security Review recommendations were integral part of grant request
Improvements will further enhance our physical plant, building access , surveillance, visitor management, and fire and safety system capabilities
Based on a $1.19M expenditure, grant reimburses @41.8% = $497k
Grant cover expenditures made through 6/30/2020
School Security Task Force (Police, Fire, School Principals, Superintendent, School Staff) working together to make recommendations as to priorities
