  • Every two years the MPO selects new projects using

MPO and Utah County Sales Tax funds

  • Next selection process starts in January 2016
  • The MPO TAC committee with MPO staff, develop

project ideas to be considered

  • Concepts Reports are completed by sponsors and

submitted and reviewed by MPO TAC

  • The MPO Regional Planning Committee makes the

final approval of new funded projects

  • Projects using Utah County funds need final approval

by the UC Commission

Annual MPO Funds = ~$11m

  • The MPO federal funds include:
  • Congestion Mitigation/Air Quality Program
  • Must show air quality benefit, no road

widening

  • Surface Transportation Program
  • Can be used for road improvements,

transit, trails, pedestrian, studies

  • Transportation Alternatives Program
  • Trails, ped, and bike projects eligible
  • Municipalities, the county, UDOT, UTA, state

agencies can apply for MPO funds

  • Private organizations can apply for CM/AQ

funds but must have a government sponsor

  • 3 county sales taxes fund highway and transit
  • 1st Quarter Cent - 100% transit
  • Generates about $18m annually
  • 2nd Quarter Cent - 92% transit / 8% roads
  • Generates about $22m annually
  • Constructed Front Runner Commuter Rail
  • $20m annually goes to UTA and bond payments
  • 3rd Quarter Cent - 30% transit / 70% roads
  • Generates about $18m annually
  • $8m pays bond payments annually
  • $5m annually for BRT
  • 2nd and 3rd Quarter Cent projects must be

recommended by the MPO to the County Commission to fund or change a project Annual Funds Collected = $58m Dedicated to UTA = $43m Utah County Bond Pmts = $8m

Annual Funds Remaining for Roads = $7m
