Ba Background – What created a need to redistrict?
In 2011, A facilities committee consisting of Community members, School Board representatives, and administrators began discussing the long range needs of our
- facilities. It was soon identified that, due to aging elementary facilities, a feasibility
study should be performed to see how to best meet the needs of our elementary programs. A study completed in January 2012 outlined options to meet our elementary school
- needs. The options included remodeling existing buildings, constructing new
buildings, or a combination of the two. The facilities committee recommended a two building structure. One building with a capacity of 1000 students and the other with a capacity of 500 students. Doe Run Elementary is on schedule to be completed in time for a fall 2017 opening. It has been proposed to close Stiegel Elementary at the completion of the 16‐17 school year, at which time construction on a 500 student elementary school will begin at the current site of Doe Run on Gramby to be opened in the fall of 2019. The elimination of a school building and the change in capacities of Doe Run has created a need to re‐draw our elementary attendance zones.
What What considerations considerations were made made when when determining determining new new options

10 year enrollment projections Capacity limitations of buildings Future growth availability of buildings Keep neighborhoods/developments together where possible Transportation ‐ Optimize bus routes when possible Transportation ‐ Minimize bus travel time Maximize “walkability” opportunities in Borough Maintain a “community school” feel in the Borough. Minimize the effect on students as much as possible Student Demographics
Pr Process for drawing attendance zones?
1) Davis Demographics performed a demographic study and ten year enrollment projection 2) An administrative team worked with Davis Demographics to develop options using ArcGIS mapping. 3) Options were analyzed and “tweaked” based on considerations
- utlined previously
4) Options are being presented and discussed tonight 5) Davis Demographics will meet with administrators, community leaders and parent reps to discuss enrollment projections and
- ptions for attendance zones.
6) Town Hall meeting February 16th to allow for community input. 7) Board to vote on final attendance zones on February 21st.
