Ba Background – What created a need to redistrict?

In 2011, A facilities committee consisting of Community members, School Board representatives, and administrators began discussing the long range needs of our

  • facilities. It was soon identified that, due to aging elementary facilities, a feasibility

study should be performed to see how to best meet the needs of our elementary programs. A study completed in January 2012 outlined options to meet our elementary school

  • needs. The options included remodeling existing buildings, constructing new

buildings, or a combination of the two. The facilities committee recommended a two building structure. One building with a capacity of 1000 students and the other with a capacity of 500 students. Doe Run Elementary is on schedule to be completed in time for a fall 2017 opening. It has been proposed to close Stiegel Elementary at the completion of the 16‐17 school year, at which time construction on a 500 student elementary school will begin at the current site of Doe Run on Gramby to be opened in the fall of 2019. The elimination of a school building and the change in capacities of Doe Run has created a need to re‐draw our elementary attendance zones.
