Our Department Philosophy

Provide students with a rich and challenging curriculum Use World Language as a communicative tool, instructing in the target language as much as possible Meet students where they are and provide opportunities for success across the board: Our applied track for students who struggle in the traditional language learning environment Our senior capstone courses in which many students receive support for and take the AP exam Leveled courses in French and Spanish

SLIDE 4

Exploration of Proficiency Based Instruction

Looking at what students can DO with the language Less emphasis on discrete grammar. Grammar becomes the structuring principle so that communication can take place. Units based on tasks students might actually be called upon to do in the target

  • language. Example: go to a restaurant, order and pay the bill.
