  • Dolomite is double carbonate rock of Calcium and Magnesium.
  • It is an excellent flux material in the steel and iron making process of the

Steel Industry as it provides both CaO and MgO required to make slag of adequate fluidity.

  • Since role of Dolomite is to remove the impurities as slag, it must contain

least quantities of impurities like silica and alumina.

  • Presence of high Silica and Alumina within Dolomite may increase the slag

volume as well increase in the consumption of dolomite, reducing productivity of the furnace.

  • Inthai Mining supplies Ultra low silica dolomite from Ta-U-Tae, Khao-in an

Tiptnapan mines which has the following quality

SiO2 = 0.1- 0.2 % MgO = +20% CaO = around 30 % Total alkali = below 0.1 %

  • Due to high purity of dolomite from Inthai, it can be used as refractory

purposes as well as for producing Calcined Dolomite. The decrepitating properties of the dolomite are low and thus the Calcined dolomite produced is of lump size, which can be an excellent feed material for steel making purpose.
