Janus v. AFSME

  • In June of this year, in a 5-4 vote, the Supreme Court ruled that fair-share

fees are unconstitutional

  • Public sector unions can not collect fair-share fees from non-members but are

still represented by their contract and union

  • Employees already had a choice whether or not to become a member of their

union before the Janus verdict

slide-5

Janus & LCCEF

  • Out of the 663 classified employees at LCC 51% (339) are members of of

LCCEF, in turn, losing 49% of the fair-share funds after the Janus decision

  • Exclusive representation is still required to everyone including the 49% of

non-members

  • Union dues and fair-share fees are the resources LCCEF uses for contract

negotiations, maintaining the contract, grievances, arbitration, organizing and

  • ther materials needed for day to day operations of the local. Dues are how

we pool our resources to win.

  • The supreme court has decided but so have LCCEF members; WE ARE

STICKING WITH OUR UNION!

Freedom Foundation

  • Freedom Foundation is an anti-union think tank that
  • perates out of Washington and Oregon
  • They say they are looking out for us BUT they want to cut

public services, outsource public jobs to the private sector, and dismantle government

  • Freedom Foundation funds efforts to stop minimum wage

increase, efforts to cut our PERS, efforts to cut our public health benefits, efforts to eliminate paid sick days, and more.

  • They are funded by special interest groups and are a front

group for the ultra wealthy
