GLOBAL ENGLISH CONTEST 2020 • A Global English Contest with a European Focus • Linked to the Council of Europe Framework of Reference (CEFR) • Takes place internationally but Global Event held yearly in Europe (aligned with the European Youth Capital in 2020) • Aims to inspire and reward young people for their achievement

GLOBAL ENGLISH CONTEST 3-STAGE CONTEST • Stage 1: all students receive Certificate of Participation • Top 10-15% Progress to Stage 2 / Certificate of achievement • Stage 2: Top performing students at each level are awarded prizes, certificates and medals • All commended students receive certificates and medals • Top performing *finalists from each country at levels A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 participate in Global Event held in European country (*number of finalists decided by EECentre - local country partner)

KOALA INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION • All levels linked to CEFR; • Designed for all students aged from 6 to 18 years old; • Schools/teachers enter candidates at appropriate level; • KOALA competition in 2 national stages; • The KOALA contest boosts confidence and rewards progress; • The KOALA contest motivates learners; • All stage 1 participants receive a certificate; • Open to all English learners aged 6 to 18; • Recognised International Benchmarking and Standards.

KOALA INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION • Positive preparation for future English tests; • Internationally recognized contest and results; • Finalists and 2 nd & 3 rd place winners each level in Romania; • Finalists compete with international finalists in host country (France 2020); • Global Winners receive prizes (1 st , 2 nd , 3 rd place) for each level.

HOW THE COMPETITION IS ORGANIZED • The competition: two stages (Stage 1 and Stage 2) • School selects appropriate level for each contestant according to their current level • Stage 1 : participants receive a Certificate with their level • Results for stage1 issued with list of contestants progressing to stage 2 • Stage 2 : all stage 2 participants receive Certificate of Achievement • Names of finalists and 2 nd , 3 rd place winners announced • Global Event hosted in: European Youth Capital each year (2020: Amiens, France).

  8. HOW THE COMPETITION IS ORGANIZED • On average 10% -15% proceed to Stage 2 (based on performance in Stage 1) • Stage 2 also includes 10 Qs Listening and one writing task. • Finalists chosen for each level (1 st 2 nd and 3 rd runners up are also awarded)

  9. WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE TEST? • Answer sheets are returned to the International Organisers; • All marking is conducted by the International Organisers (no local marking); • EECentre informs schools/candidates progressing to Stage 2.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE TEST? • Finalists and runners up are awarded prizes at a local award ceremony. • Schools and teachers with award winning students receive certificates of recognition and awards. • Finalists (accompanied by their teacher*) compete with international finalists and participate in Global Winner contest * Number of finalists depends on entries and is decided by EECentre - official partner for Romania.
