This work is to replace the existing floating concrete pontoon walkways that were installed in the early 1990’ s. These concrete walkways have served the leasee’ s at the Whyalla Marina well, but have since deteriorated into a state of disrepair. The heavy concrete sections are difficult to work on and replace, with the service pod facilities becoming quite dated, requiring significant Council resources to maintain full function, with limited firefighting capabilities. The new walkway pontoons are currently being manufactured and the new service pillars are already in Whyalla. Works to remove the existing floating walkways and install the new ones is scheduled to occur sometime in late May to early June. A firm date will be made soon, so we can begin to consult with the lease holders as to how the whole proj ect will unfold in the best interest of all parties.
Contract 02 - 2018 - Design, Construct, Remove & Replace Floating Pontoons at Whyalla Marina for $386,810.00 ex GS T was awarded to Walcon Marine Australasia Pty Limited.

Proj ect delivery commenced early March 2019 and will ensure the original condition of the hangar is maintained whilst returning the structure to its original design strength. The existing model boat launching facility at the Wetlands had come to the end of its useful life. Lessons learned from this old facility included that it couldn’ t adapt to the changing water levels in the Wetlands, meaning that the users of this facility (mostly pensioners) need to stoop down or launch from the adj acent bank when the water levels get too low. The old facility also became inundated/ submerged after heavy rains, further restricting the use of this facility. This work was originally budgeted for in the 2017/ 18 financial year, to replace the existing model boat launching facilities at the site, with additional funds being budgeted to be available in the 2018/ 19 financial

Beach Access Canopies Refurbished
The refurbishment of the Foreshore Beach Access Canopies is needed to remediate the threat of structural failure, caused by not addressing the significant corrosion occurring
This work was budgeted for in the 17/ 18 financial year, to treat the rust beginning to form on much of the steel work that makes up 100%
This rust is beginning to cause concern for the structural integrity and robustness on all three canopy structures. This work will involve the complete removal of these structures from site, where they will be transported to the contractor’ s yard, where the required rust treatments and marine grade paint application can be carried out safely.
Once complete, we expect these structures to be maintenance free for at least another 7-10 years.

S ince the new exercise track was installed along Queen Elizabeth Drive, as part of the Hummock Hill Upgrade Proj ect in 2012, Council has received a number of customer requests to light this walkway. This new walkway has proved to be a big hit with the community, as this track is utilised by individuals, sporting and fitness clubs to exercise. The installation of these new LED bollards will allow the exercising public to walk this path, without the risk of the sun’ s harmful effects. This work was budgeted in the 17/ 18 financial year, to light the Hummock Hill walking track. An appropriate lighting system was chosen to minimise light spill that may affect neighbouring properties
These bollards will illuminate from dusk till dawn, so the exercising public can utilize this walkway after sunset or before sunrise. These new bollards come with a 5 year parts warrantee.
This proj ect will S upply and Inst all 60 x vandal resist ant solar bollards at 10m spacings, providing an asymmet rical light beam t hat is aimed t owards t he ground.
