Uniform Proposal (1of4)

Uniform policy is in effect from the time of arrival at school until school is dismissed for the day. Nothing prohibited by the RCCSD Dress Code is permitted by this policy. Deal with issue of contract with parent signature at beginning

Section 1: Apparel Specifications

Golf / polo style shirt

Solid color – Green, blue, grey, white, or black [Dickinson will allow any solid color]

Short or long-sleeved

Long-sleeved undershirt is permitted underneath short-sleeve shirts, provided that they are white, gray or black

Solid dress shirt – no more than two buttons undone

Sweater / Sweatshirt / Fleece

Solid color – Green, blue, grey, white, or black

Crewneck or V-Neck

Button-down or zippered cardigan

Solid color collared shirt must be worn underneath - all sweaters, sweatshirts, or fleeces

No hoodies – except McKean Gear

Suit coats & suits are permitted

Pants

Dockers, Chino, Cargo, or Suit style pants – solid khaki, navy blue, or black, or gray

No Jeans or corduroy material

No leggings, yoga pants, pajama pants, skinny jeans/pants or stretch-material pants

No rolled-up pants or saggy pants (Pants must be worn on the hips or at the waist, belts are optional unless needed to hold the hip/waistline)

Shorts / Skirts

Dockers, Cargo, or Chino style – khaki, navy blue, or black, or gray

Hem of garment must reach to a point no more than 4 inches above the knee. (we state knee length)

No saggy shorts/skirts (Shorts/skirts must be worn on the hips or at the waist, belts are optional unless needed to hold the hip/waistline)

No stretch material (especially skirts)

Tights: must be solid color and solid material

Belts – If a belt is worn it may be any material or color.

Shoes

Any sneaker, dress shoe, or boot with closed toe and heel

No flip-flops, slides, slippers, or moccasins

Sandals are permitted, provided they have a heel strap

McKean Gear

Polo Shirts and Sweatshirts with the McKean logo are always permitted

Sweatpants and T-Shirts are permitted only on specially designated days

Team uniforms (tops only) and other team apparel – if provided through the team – are permitted at all times. Some team uniforms may deemed inappropriate for wear during school hours.

Outer Wear – Coats must be stored in the student’s locker prior to attending their first class of the day. This provision may be waived at the discretion of the administration.

Suspension During the first student week, the intervention team will be counseling students about the new policy in hopes to avoid applying

  • consequences. There will be no consequences for any student on the first day of the school year when that student’s grade is in

session or if the student begins late on the student’s first day. All students will be provided all uniform information when the registration process is initiated.

Section 3: Support for Economically Disadvantaged Students

Students who qualify for uniform support

Any student covered by the McKinney-Vento Act

Any student who receives direct benefits from the state such as SNAP or TANF Section 4: Uniform Bank and Donation

The uniform closet will have two kinds of clothes – loaners and clothes to be given to needy students (the uniform bank)

Loaner clothes will be visually identifiable as such – with a McKean logo and same color

Clothes in the uniform bank will not be identifiable as such

There will be a line item in the 2015-2016 budget sufficient to purchase uniforms for approximately 300 students (2 each) uniforms and 50 loaner uniforms (650 uniforms estimated at $8,500) – this is approximately 3% of the building budget.

We will have a space designated for a uniform closet. We plan to re-purpose existing shelves.

McKean will work in cooperation with Communities in Schools to develop a process for students to donate unwanted uniforms when they graduate as well as find outside vendors that are willing to donate funds or uniforms to our bank. Section 5: Procedures for New Enrollees and students covered by the McKinney-Vento Act

New students will receive uniform information the first time they come to the school to register.

When a student is confirmed as eligible for McKinney-Vento services, that student will receive three uniforms (pants and shirts) from the uniform bank. Section 6: Exceptions – Exceptions for religious observance or other factors will be handled on a student-by-student basis.

Plans for Community Information Sessions

 These sessions will share details of the policy,

where uniforms can be purchased, and plans to support families in need.

 All sessions will run 6:30-8pm  Each school will host three sessions:

March 23, 2015 – At both Dickinson and McKean separately

April 20, 2015 – At Warner both schools will host a joint information session

May 4, 2015 - At both Dickinson and McKean separately
