How do I access these resources?

  • All databases are available through the library catalogue and

therefore available off campus (login with your UTOR ID)

  • Note: They are generally not searchable via the catalogue, you have to look

up the database name and search within

Types of Reports

  • Companies: annual reports, company profiles, analyst reports, SWOT

analysis, ratios, financial data

  • Industry Reports
  • Market Research Reports
  • Data: Demographic, product research, financial (public companies)

Company Research

  • Only public companies have to disclose their finances; private

companies do not have to disclose anything

  • The Ontario Securities Commission has some helpful

reports/definitions if you’re new to this research. Try Researching Your Investments or Disclosure Documents

Using Industry Codes for Company Research

  • Using an industry code (usually NAICS or SIC) you can compile lists
  • f companies operating within a certain industry
  • CB Insights for start‐ups and venture capital
  • Try LexisNexis, Mergent or Capital IQ (available in Rotman Finance Lab)
  • To find the NAICS or SIC code, check Statistics Canada for NAICS

  • Some databases assign their own codes or let you search by
