  1. EMIL Case Study Template Project name Intergenerational Presentation of dances and foods from the Cretan tradition. Lead organisation Aktios Elderly Care Unit Contact details Name: Dr. Costis Prouskas Role in organisation: C.E.O. General Manager Telephone number(s): 2106515268, 2106523623,2106523627 Email address: prouskas@aktios.gr Mailing Address: 17 Ipirou Str Agia Paraskevi, Gr 15341 Brief Summary Presentation of traditional dances and foods from the Cretan tradition with the participation of the relatives of the elderly (children and grandchildren) and children of a dancing group from the local community. Project information Location/ venue: Garden of Aktios Elderly Care Unit, Agia Paraskevi, Greece. Duration: Two days Evidence of need: In the summer months in Aktios we are accustomed to make weekly references during our everyday group activities into some region of Greece or abroad. During the summer months, the children and grandchildren of our elderly residents have more time at their disposal so we wanted them to participate and enable more into an everyday activity of the elderly in a festive mood. Purpose: In this event we wanted to bring the relatives of our elderly residents closer to the everyday schedule of activities in Aktios and also give

  2. them the chance to participate in a more active role and achieve a greater participation from their behalf in the schedule of our activities in the future. We also wanted to bring the community in touch with the everyday living of our elderly residents and particularly to get in touch with children, since the contact with them makes them very happy. Participants: 65 elderly residents, 45 relatives (children and grandchildren), 23 working people, and 20 individuals forming the children dancing group along with their parents. Activities/ events: Presentation of traditional Cretan dances with Cretan costumes and presentation of traditional Cretan foods as the week prior to the event was dedicated to Crete. In every group activity that was organized by the Psychosocial group in Aktios there was presentation of Cretan topics, such as traditional foods, dances and music, civilization, and important personalities of the island were present. Evaluation The participation of the relatives in an everyday activity of the unit gives the opportunity on both parts to strengthen their relationship, gain common experiences and share new memories. The event was evaluated by General Manager Dr. Prouskas Costis. The participation and also the satisfaction of everyone after the closure of the event proved its success. The cooperation between the working personnel, elderly residents, children and also the community was in complete harmony. The elderly were happy and pleased to see their relatives (children and grandchildren) participating with them in an activity and the same is true for their relatives since they had the opportunity to spend many enjoyable hours with their elder family member. The people forming the dancing group were feeling great satisfaction by demonstrating their work to the elderly and they were caught by surprise when at the end of the event the elderly gave as present a collage that they had made earlier. The relatives also felt greater intimacy with the activities of the elderly in the operation of Aktios and since then they participate more actively.
