  1. INFORMATIVE PRESENTATION Mr. Winn / Communication Arts OVERVIEW An informative speech provides your audience with information on a specific topic. The purpose is to provide your audience with new or additional knowledge of your subject without overwhelming them. Select a topic you find interesting. It can be something you already know about or wish to learn more about. GRADE 100 points  PRESENTATION: You will record yourself presenting your speech and e-mail it to me winn.corey@westad.org  OUTLINE: You will use this during your presentation, but it will not be turned in.  PRESENTATION includes:  Time: 3-5 minutes  Should teach the class about something (example: how to make chocolate chip cookies, how to shoot a goal in soccer, how to tie a fly, etc.)  Topic should interest you and the audience  Must use at least 2 sources (example: Book, magazine article, internet source etc.)  Must cite sources in the speech ( example: According to ….)  Must be school appropriate  Outline required-you may use it as a reference tool during your speech  Must use have at least 1 visual aid (Ex. Props, A poster, food that you are making, a football etc.) The visual aid should supplement your presentation, not distract  OUTLINE template: You can use this to guide you during your presentation. (You still need to make eye contact with the audience-the camera) I. INTRO a. Attention Grabber!!! - Get your audience’s attention. This can be in the form of a Story, Hypothetical Illustration, Quote, Reference to Audience, Demonstration, Novelty, Video clip, etc. … b. Thesis – Let the audience know your topic c. Preview – Introduce the main steps, points, topics, etc. … II. BODY a. TOPIC 1 i. Subpoints and supporting material ii. Subpoints and supporting material b. TOPIC 2 i. Subpoints and supporting material ii. Subpoints and supporting material c. TOPIC 3

Out of the Ordinary DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS??  Narrow down your topic, don’t keep it too broad. For example, avoid “How to Play Soccer” and instead, “How to be an effective goalie”  Do something that interests you!  Use props, humor, consider ways of connecting with the audience Due Date: Please e-mail me your speech by Monday, May 4 th !
