Terminology

Community Health Information Organization (cHIO): Generally non-profit collaboratives or government agencies facilitating HIE for a state or region (aka: public HIEs, regional health information organizations and State Designated Entities). Enterprise Health Information Exchange (eHIE): Health system lead efforts to connect affiliated providers, referring practices, and medical trading partners (aka: private HIEs).
