Introduction to the Issue

  • Poor people do not have access to basic needs to

protect them from the cold of the winter.

  • Many people that die during the winter because of the

low temperatures.

  • People don’t recycle mostly because they don’t know

where their trash is going to.

GOAL, NEED, and COMMUNITY

Our goal is to provide rural communities with blankets made out of 100% post consumed PET so they can keep warm during winter. People need blankets to keep warm during winter. First Blanket Delivery: Instituto Nacional de enfermedades Neoplásicas (INEN)

What prior learning did you have related to this project?

  • Many people died during the winter, mostly in the Andes
  • We knew that recycling was a big problem in peru
  • We knew that peruvian communities suffer in the winter

What subject-specific knowledge did you have related to this subject?

Started to research ways to recycle plastic. We found that we could make blankets out of plastic so we looked at companies that would do the process in lima. We got in contact with Gexim, a company that makes blankets out of 100% post consumed PET that can be found in plastic bottles.

What is the context of your issue in South America? We can make a good publicity that explains what we are trying to do and how they can help us, we can do this by having those kinds of short cheap publicity in websites as youtube or google. If our project turn our successful we can also start to expand to others places and it could possible also benefit other countries.
