  2. Language Hope Magnet Elementary LEVY REFERENDUM INFORMATION Objective: The Language Hope Magnet Elementary School has proposed to its  community a levy that will generate $525,000.00. With the funds, the school will acquire a Language Laboratory that will satisfy the needs of a language laboratory for our students. If the levy is approved, it would impact your Property Tax by $37.90 only one year. You will pay only $3.16 more per month during one year.   4. Language Hope Magnet Elementary Language Laboratory System? The language laboratory system (LLS) is an audio-visual equipment used as an aid in modern language teaching. This type of equipment are frequently found, amongst other places, in the most advanced language programs in schools, universities and academies. This system has been designed to meet the needs of language instructors and language learners of any age.

  5. Language Hope Magnet Elementary The Language Laboratory System includes: A Master console for the teacher, which is connected to a number of 1. rows of students. For each student, the system includes a tape recorder, a headset and 2. a microphone . The teacher console is fitted with master playback tape recorder and some means of monitoring of each row of students in the class via the teacher headset and an intercom facility offering 2-way communication between teacher and student.

  6. L a nguage Hope Magnet Elementary The opinion of two important experts:  The process of learning a foreign language may extremely difficult. However, by using the proper digital equipment, it is surprisingly easy to achieve. ( Ivan R. Contreras, Professor of Language and Linguistics)  I am very impressed by the thoughtful and insightful work placed on this important language teaching equipment. After evaluating the capabilities of the LLS , I am completely sure that this system will enhance the ability of the school to successfully achieve the objectives of its dual immersion program. Language Hope Magnet Elementary Our teachers say: By implementing the use of the LLS in my classroom, I will be 1 able to more frequently monitor the pronunciation of the student in the first and second language. By using the LLS in our classroom, the teacher will be able to 2. provide immediate feed back to the students during the class. This is feedback in real time. By providing immediate feedback, teachers will individualize their 3. instruction, it is like working on a 1:1 basis with each student. This will produce an important effect on student’s achievement.

  8. Language Hope Magnet Elementary Our teachers say: (Continued) 4 . By using the LLS in our classroom, the teachers will be able to work with more than one group at the time, which will enhance their ability to use differentiation in their teaching .

(Fourth Grade student) “When I can work with the teacher in smaller groups we learn 2. more” (Third Grade Student) 3. “I want to use the system (LLS), because I will be connected to the teacher, and I will be able to ask without interrupting the class” (Third Grade Student) “If we have the system in place, I will ask and the teacher can 4. answer my question immediately” (Fourth Grade student)

  10. Language Hope Magnet Elementary The Administration of our school says: 1. The use of the Language Laboratory System in our school will increase and enhance their social interaction of our students with other members of their learning community (self-confidence). 2. The LLS will allow our school to immediately meet the language learning needs of our communities, in English and Spanish. 3. The LLS will allow our school to satisfy the language learning needs of other members of our communities, by developing a dual immersion program in other languages, such as, French, German, Hmong, and Chinese.

Immediate feed back to the students during the class. This is 2. feedback in real time. More individualized 1:1 instructions during the classes. 3. With more teaching differentiation when working in small groups. 4.

  17. Language Hope Magnet Elementary If the levy is not approved, our students will lose an extra opportunity to: Learn more and faster. 1. Work comfortably in smaller groups. 2. 3. Ask question to the teacher, without interrupting the class. 4. To receive immediate feedback when they ask questions to their teachers.

Increase their attendance and participation. 3. Behave better. 4. 5. To receive faster and more support from teachers and peers.
