Impact: Reduce the likelihood of lead poisoning among families living in three “hot spot” zip codes in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Educate about the threat of lead exposure/poisoning and how good nutrition is a preventative measure.
Grow window box and container gardens with fruits, vegetables and herbs high in iron, calcium, and other minerals proven to minimize lead exposure.
Cook with an OKT cooking coach to develop and prepare recipes with the grown fruits, vegetables and herbs.
Shop at OKT-sponsored Southeast Area Farmers’ Market.
The project centers on 40 school families receiving Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
The project improves personal and family wellness.
