Ideas

  • Initially I thought of working on my original

project “Annapurna Base Camp Trekking”.

  • But now I have decided to start with a fresh

new project about Newari food recipes.

  • In one line - Newari Food is a popular

category of Nepalese food.

slide-2
SLIDE 2

Why I changed my mind?

  • When I got pregnant couple of years ago, I had a craving for

many foods particularly Newari food.

  • I had to call my mum for recipes of Newari food as there

were few recipe websites. These websites again weren’t in

  • ne place dedicated for Newari food lovers.
  • Then I thought of making a dedicated Newari recipe website

which would help others like me who loves the Newari food in their daily life.

slide-5
SLIDE 5

Elevator pitch

  • Newari food recipes aren’t found abundant online,

moreover, Newari food recipe as a dedicated website is almost non-existence.

  • Recipes of popular food consumed during the Newari

festivals are also rarely put together online.

  • With the help of my mum and my relatives, I will put

together popular Newari food and some rare Newari food recipes influenced by Newari culture. The site will also include other popular food prepared during the various festivals along with other unique Newari cuisines.

slide-6
SLIDE 6

The problem

  • Some Nepali online recipe website only cover

few Newari food recipes.

  • These websites do not cover all the food

recipes influenced by Newari culture.

  • Most of these websites do not cover food

prepared during the Newari festivals.

slide-7
SLIDE 7

The value proposition

  • The website will include the popular food and

popular food during the festivals.

  • I will put together food recipes influenced by

Newari culture which are very different from generic Newari food recipes hence have rich flavour and texture.

  • The website will also include some other

unique Newari meals.

slide-8
SLIDE 8

  • The site will only include Newari food and become a first

such website that host Newari recipes.

slide-12
SLIDE 12

Competitor Analysis

  • Broadly recipe websites are based on the type of food. These sites

are catered for European and American food as compared to dedicated Newari food which is a south-east asian food.

  • Other online recipes resources that fall under south-east asian

cuisines are limited and Newari food is barely represented.

  • Among these sites, the food recipes are more generic and do not

include unique food influenced by Newari culture to name one.

slide-13
SLIDE 13

Cognate websites

Strength

  • The site seems to include other categories like travel and tourism in Nepal which can bring in extra

visitors. Weakness

  • The site fails to focus on recipes and can deter potential visitors looking for recipes.
  • The site do not categorise the recipes.
  • Many recipe lacks the picture which can speak thousands word.
  • Many recipes also lacks step-by-step guide on preparing the meal/food.

Cultural Context

slide-19
SLIDE 19

History

  • Newari cuisine comes from Nepal. Geographically, Nepal stretches from

Himalayan region of Mount Everest in the north to the plains of sea level in the south. Hence the food takes a different shape which is influenced by China to the North and India to the south.

  • Newari food recipe shares some similarities with Indian food but Newari

cuisine is unique on its own way. Use of spices are similar but the method and quantity are used differently.

  • Newari people mainly comes from the capital of Nepal, Kathmandu.

Nepal has many festivals throughout the year. The Newari food consumed during these festivals are also very popular.

01 | Off the Shelf CMS Systems - Wordpress

Wordpress is a very popular PHP/MySQL based CMS system which is easier to use with numerous plugins/themes to enhance the features/look & feel. PROS :

  • Most hosting comes pre-installed, minimising the complexity of installations and

setup.

  • Free modern themes available built with Bootstrap and other CSS frameworks.
  • Supports SEO, Forms, Database backup, Image Uploader/modifier, Rich Text Editors

plugins with easy installation options. CONS:

  • Security is the main concern as it is number one target for hackers. However, some

customisation can help deter these attacks.

Back-end Technology

02 | Off the Shelf CMS -Craft CMS

Craft on the other hand i is a flexible, user-friendly CMS for creating custom digital experiences on the web PROS:

  • You can easily customize it to be lightweight and

compliment your front-end.

do need plugins for. CONS:

the site.

  • Time-consuming CMS
