Eligible non-citizens

• Lawful permanent residents (LPRs)
• Refugees and asylees
• Persons granted withholding of removal
• Persons eligible for registry
• Victims of trafficking

Mixed households

• If one member of the household is a U.S.

citizen or eligible non-citizen, the household may apply for Section 8 or project based housing

• Housing assistance will be pro-rated based on

the number of eligible of household members

Public Charge

• Until now used primarily to determine

admissibility, e.g. whether someone seeking LPR status would be granted

• Also did not apply to housing programs or food

assistance programs, only cash assistance, i.e. TANF, GA, SSI

• New proposed Executive Order

– would expand to include housing and food assistance programs – would also potentially affect people who are already LPRs
