  3. Notes from Medford Leas at Lumberton FEBRUARY 2012 ______________________________________________________________________________________________ THE GRAYING OF THE CHRONICLE The Editors With this issue we bid farewell to an era that spanned almost half the life of our newsletter to date. It was April 2007 when the first of 59 consecutive issues of The Chronicle appeared in color; now that magical age has been brought to a sudden end. Starting next month, The Chronicle will feature only black, white, and shades of gray. The problem is cost. Back then, the Administra-tion made us a most generous offer, for which we are profoundly grateful, to have The Chronicle copied in color on the machine in its office, at a very affordable cost to the LLRA. Judy Milligan was assigned to help us, and it is hard to imagine anyone easier to work with. But Judy retired in January and will not be replaced. We, as residents, though willing, are not permitted to operate the copier. But even if staff were made available, we would now be charged residential copying rates, comparable to those of com-mercial providers, and these are far out of reach of our budget. As a beloved former Lumberton Leas resident said years ago on his deathbed, “It’s been a good ride.” Walt Riley’s memorable words inspire us to accept the unalterable with the same dignity and gratitude. We shall continue our job of keeping you informed and entertained to the best of our abilities. Just try to imagine the colors from now on.
