Foundation Learning offers different pathways to enable young people to develop skills and confidence to prepare for adulthood and make future life choices, including:
Independence pathway aims to support your transition to adulthood with a focus on developing your independence What will I do on the course? Work towards individual personal targets across different topics linked to areas of independence and English and maths. We will work with you, your parents and carers in designing your programme of study, setting your targets and assess your progress inside and outside of College.
What could I progress on to at the end of the course?

This pathway is aimed to develop the skills and behaviors that will prepare you for future studies or work What will I do on the course? Develop behaviours and study skills, whilst working toward the BTEC Entry to Vocational Study qualification, that will prepare you for future study or work. Choose from a range of different vocational subjects such as sport, art & design, media & IT, care and catering, to explore your future pathways. English and maths will also be delivered within your course through a City & Guilds Functional Skills qualification at a level appropriate to you.

Vocational pathway offers a range of vocational options to ensure you make an informed choice and develop vocational knowledge and study skills for a successful transition to your chosen vocational pathway What will I do on the course? You will have the opportunity to explore three different vocational
knowledge required to progress to further study whilst working towards BTEC Level 1 Introduction to Vocational Studies qualification. In addition you will work towards your next stage in English and maths, whether that be a Functional Skill or GCSE.

Works pathway develops your knowledge and skills to prepare you for the world of work before leaving college What will I do on the course?
This pathway provides the opportunity to explore your own skills, qualities and identify different careers that may be suitable for you upon leaving College. Develop your skills for employment through internal and/or external work placement and progression on to a supported internship whilst continuing to study key employability skills and work towards a City & Guilds Employability Skills qualification. English & maths will be delivered within your course through a City & Guilds Functional Skills qualification at a level appropriate to you or a GCSE if required.

Dan B Foundation Learning Vocational Joined Foundation Learning in September 2015 and within two years on the programme he achieved Level 1 Introduction to Vocational Studies and both his Functional skills and GCSE in English and maths. Dan progressed onto Performing Arts and he is now in the second year of his Level 3 Acting Diploma and is a regular cast member with Kneehigh to rave reviews. Phoenix T Foundation Learning Vocational Joined Foundation Learning in Sept 2017 previously Home Educated. In one year Phoenix successfully achieved Level 1 Introductory to Vocational Studies and GCSE English, progressing on to Music. Now in the final year of Level 3 Extended Diploma and is off to University in September. Phoenix also plays in a Band.

Lily Stowell Foundation Learning Vocational Lily completed a Vocational & Work-Related Studies course at Cornwall College St Austell and she now boats her maritime-inspired artwork displayed at Halo Hair Design in St Austell. “I feel really proud of having my artwork displayed. I heard of a local salon owner who particularly likes nautical art, so armed with this information I created a pieced with a big octopus and a diver. I get a lot of inspiration from my surroundings and being close to the sea helped me create this piece of

In addition to the Additional Learning Support Team, Foundation Learning have specialist staff who can support you on your journey in education, to ensure you have every opportunity to succeed. We have Learning Coaches to provide pastoral support. P2E Co-Ordinator and Job Coaches to help support on work placement. Many staff are qualified Autism Champions, TIS Practitioners, Mental Health First Aiders. We also have designated quiet spaces and chill out rooms.
All Foundation Learning students will be part of Careers Week commencing. 1st March 2021 When studying on the Vocational pathway you will have an invaluable opportunity undertake a Work Experience Placement while you are on your course. This will be during w/c 14th June 2021. It will be up to you to identify possible placements based on your future aspirations and interests, however our Pathway to Employment Coordinator will support you through this process. If you are on the Pathway to Employment Stage 1 course you will undertake an internal work placement for 1 day a week that will be part of your timetable. On Pathway to Employment Stage 2 course you will be required to undertake an external placement for a minimum of two days per week, supported by a Job Coach, whilst you attend College for one day.
