Research Some More then Visit  Prepare a college comparison checklist  See a sample on the back of your Jr. checklist  Contact the office of admissions  Schedule appointments for your campus visits If visiting during a DHS school day, you must notify the attendance office prior to the college visit. Ask the attendance office about the required documentation to excuse the absence.

College Entrance Exams ACT or SAT You don’t have to take both • Use your PSAT scores to make an • informed decision about which one to take. 99% of all colleges and universities • will accept either test You should take it for the first time • in the spring of your JUNIOR year. If you are on Free or Reduced lunch, • you can get a waiver to take the test for free.

FAFSA There’s no magic lab, you just gotta do it!  You must fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in January or February of your senior year.  This is how the government and colleges determine how much money you will receive in Grants and Financial Aid.  Why do we tell you about it now? So you can PLAN AHEAD !!!

Merit : Based on GPA, Class rank, activities, interviews, leadership, autobiographical statement, test scores, letters of recommendation, essays Need: Based on Financial situation – information gathered from the FAFSA Miscellaneous: Unusual scholarships typically sponsored by private companies and are meant for anyone wanting to go to college.
