Methodology / Process 2 • ‘Towards a Level Playing Field; Playing Pitch Model’ Sport England. • Focused research on supply, demand and quality to assess adequacy of provision for matches and training. • Association football, gaelic games, cricket, hockey, rugby. • Fields in Trust; 3 acres of pitches per 1,000 population.

  3. Methodology / Process 3 • Governing bodies, Sport NI, EA consulted. • Survey of all sports clubs. • Council-owned pitches inspected.

Pitches Condition Survey & Strategy 9 OVERARCHING STRATEGIC RECOMMENDATIONS • Priority given to the development of multi-sport hubs which can accommodate a range of sports including association football, gaelic, cricket, rugby, hockey and others. • Invest in current playing pitch stock to improve quality and maximise usage. • Establish a capital investment grant programme to assist sports clubs to further develop their own facilities to cater for the needs of their membership – open to all sports. • Support partnerships with the educational sector to expand on community use. • Support sports development programmes in partnership with clubs, schools, governing bodies and statutory agencies to maximise participation including underrepresented groups. • Engage with clubs to build capacity in relation to preparing sports development plans and applying for funding for community based projects.

Pitches Condition Survey & Strategy DRAFT ACTIONS – ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL 11 • Caw MUGA training facility - approved and funding in place • Clondermott multi-sport facility - at design stage • Templemore Playing Pitches - at design stage • Lettershandoney 3G training pitch and changing - at detailed design stage • Ballyfatten MUGA training pitch • Clooney Park West – need for Masterplan to further utilise facility • Culmore Country Park – Masterplan in progress (2 grass assoc f’ball pitches + 1 grass gaelic)

Pitches Condition Survey & Strategy DRAFT ACTIONS - GAELIC 12 • Install gaelic ball stop nets on all council owned pitches • Further develop Ballyarnett Park to accommodate all gaelic clubs in the area • Culmore Country Park – gaelic grass pitch on footprint of 2 association football pitches with ball stops • Corrody Road gaelic facility development for DoireTrasna GAC – 1 x grass floodlit gaelic pitch + training pitch • Thornhill College Gaelic 3G facility for school and community use • Consider the development of a multi-sports facility in rural Strabane to accommodate gaelic and association football training and matches • *Clondermott + Templemore Multi-sports facilities to include gaelic pitches

  13. Pitches Condition Survey & Strategy DRAFT ACTIONS - CRICKET 13 • Include cricket nets and training facilities in all multi-sport facility developments • Liaise with Sion Mills Cricket Club – future use of current pitch is uncertain

  14. Pitches Condition Survey & Strategy DRAFT ACTIONS - HOCKEY 14 • Develop a water-based Astroturf pitch at the Foyle Arena • Liaise with Strabane Academy to facilitate community use of the new hockey pitch as part of new school build.

  15. Pitches Condition Survey & Strategy DRAFT ACTIONS – RUGBY 15 • Liaise with Strabane Rugby Club - need for a home pitch • Liaise with City of Derry Rugby Club - aspirations to either further develop their current facility at Judge’s Road or move to former Foyle College site • All future multi-sport pitch developments to be suitable for rugby training and matches
