Our Role • The changing economy/political environment increase the value of our institution in serving both the individual and the community • High unemployment rate 16% • 30 000 students in 3 large Campuses • EST is a major actor in regional development (11% National territory) • We offer 25 Academic programs designed to serve the needs in workforce • Enrollment: from 377 students to 1270 in 2010/11 of which over 50% are females

History of the partnership • EST director participation in Jordan BMENA Conference on Community and Technical Colleges in June , 2009 • The event triggered interest in partnering with US Community & Technical Colleges • EST/ GTC Singled out Mecatronics as a target field for cooperation • It is the first institutional cooperation between UMP & a US Technical College • Opportunity to discover best practices in technical teaching • How to connect education to business.

  8. Support for partnership. • The choice of mecatronics is appropriate: it is a priority in the National Industrial Emergence Plan • Good PR • Partnership supported by local & central government • A large experience of partnerships with European institutions (France, Spain & Belgium)
