1948-UAW President Walter Reuther asked the Big 3 to make small fuel efficient, non-polluting cars in North America Big 3 refused, citing no market. Still saying it! UAW supported the Civil Rights, Women’s and Environmental movements Helped organize 1st Earth Day in 1970
