Residential/Commercial question

 80/20 benchmark

 While not an official guide, our analysis demonstrated an

approximately 80/20 split between residential land use and commercial land use respectively in both the City of Columbus and Franklin County.

 The split in German village is approximately 85/15.

 Healthy and well-functioning community  Few vacancies and/or developable properties  No desire for further residential  commercial

conversions

 Limited ability to be impacted by the Society

Next steps

 Challenges we have identified

 Perceived lack of parking  Desire to encourage tourism while not changing the

character of the neighborhood

 Need to continue to support existing local businesses

slide-14
SLIDE 14

Next steps

 The Villages Circulator

See: http://www.viainfo.net/BusService/Streetcar.aspx

slide-15
SLIDE 15

Villages Circulator: Overview

 Trackless trolley  Focused on downtown hotels  Various stops in the Villages and Short North  Limited schedule  Distinct branding

slide-16
SLIDE 16

Villages Circulator: Benefits

 Captures the opportunities presented by nearby

hotel development and increased convention traffic

 Delivers visitors who do not need parking  Suits the “nodal” quality of German Village  Scalable: Routes can be expanded or changed for a

relatively low cost

 Creates a signature image for the “Arch City”

slide-17
SLIDE 17

Process

 Goal: Make an initial determination on feasibility

 Meeting with Shiloh and heads of the various SIDs  Conversation with Florence/Covington  Suggested route and stops  Rough budget
