Basalt is rich with ferromagnesium silicate minerals, such as olivine and pyroxene undergone dynamic metamorphism and alteration to form serpentinites. It is heavily fractured and polished serpentinites with almost lozenge shapes. The hydrous alteration might be transformed serpentinite to soapstone (dominated by talc minerals). Weathered serpentines become bauxite. STOP #2: Ribbon chert Chert is a dark grey to reddish brown in colour. It is one of indicator for suture zone, where they are biochemical rocks that form on the sea floor from silica ooze. It might contain radiolarian and diatom microfossil. STOP #3: Andesite Andesite formed in volcanic arc series that extruded in the Eastern belt region. It ranges from light grey to dark green in colour with phenocrysts of plagioclase feldspars and hornblende. These intermediate volcanic rocks might be crystallized within the volcanic vent undergoing slow cooling process. 12.30 pm Lunch STOP #4: Olistostrome or melange’ Mixture of rocks that broken up into angular blocks indicated by the plate boundaries. It is very chaotic structure contain of rotated blocks of carbonaceous shale, sandstone, cherts and limestone (?) within the black shale. STOP #5: Main Range Granite It is a medium- to coarse-grained megacrystic biotite granite that formed after the collision between Sibumasu and Indochina blocks by the crustal thickening. The huge granite intrusion can be called as post-collisional granite that brings along tin through the fractional crystallization. STOP #6: Roof Pendant Geomorphological features of beautiful landscape of Bharat Tea Plantation made up of granite and remnant of quartz-mica schist. It called roof pendent because the schist is sandwiched by the granite become isolated outcrops. 6.00 pm Evening Tea at Bharat Tea Plantation 7.30 pm BBQ Dinner at Heritage Hotel and Networking Session S u n d a y , 1 2 A p r i l 2 0 2 0 7.00 am Breakfast 9.00 am Townhall Session on Implications of Bentong-Raub Suture Existence to Geoscience-related Industries 11.00 pm End of program
