Why a levee Technical Committee in ICOLD?

 Levees ¡and ¡Dams ¡are ¡similar ¡but ¡with ¡dis8nct ¡differences ¡(like ¡tailings ¡dams) ¡  need ¡a ¡separate ¡technical ¡commiAee ¡  ICOLD ¡has ¡the ¡right ¡group ¡of ¡experts ¡and ¡the ¡organiza8onal ¡framework ¡to ¡ champion ¡levee ¡issues ¡vice ¡other ¡socie8es ¡  opportunity ¡for ¡ICOLD ¡to ¡lead ¡the ¡Levees ¡Community ¡of ¡Prac8ce ¡  In ¡terms ¡of ¡Infrastructure ¡PorJolio, ¡levees ¡have ¡similar ¡scope ¡and ¡scale ¡of ¡ dams ¡in ¡many ¡countries ¡  opportunity ¡to ¡grow ¡ICOLD ¡  Dams ¡and ¡levees ¡oLen ¡act ¡as ¡a ¡system ¡  natural ¡fit ¡for ¡ICOLD ¡  industry ¡needs ¡integrated ¡approach ¡

Proposed tasks and activities

For a new Technical Committee that combines technical, governance and policy issues related to levees and flood defences  Collect ¡informa8on ¡on ¡levees ¡such ¡as ¡inventory, ¡policies, ¡best ¡prac8ces ¡in ¡ different ¡countries ¡  Explore ¡the ¡poten8al ¡for ¡combining ¡dam ¡and ¡levee ¡safety ¡approaches ¡in ¡ various ¡regulatory, ¡and ¡physical ¡environments ¡  Explore ¡similari8es ¡and ¡differences ¡between ¡dams ¡and ¡levees ¡and ¡present ¡ findings ¡and ¡key ¡issues ¡in ¡a ¡posi8on ¡paper ¡  Develop ¡best ¡prac8ces ¡on ¡combined ¡dam/levee ¡systems ¡  Expand ¡on ¡current ¡ac8vi8es ¡of ¡the ¡European ¡Working ¡Group ¡on ¡Levees ¡and ¡ Flood ¡Defences ¡(including ¡an ¡ini8al ¡dams ¡/ ¡levees ¡comparison ¡report) ¡  Coordinate ¡with ¡other ¡ICOLD ¡Technical ¡CommiAees ¡working ¡on ¡related ¡topics ¡
