  2. Introduction ¤ GAC leadership elections are due to take place and conclude in ICANN 60 in Abu Dhabi ¤ Open seats: 1 GAC Chair, 5 GAC Vice Chairs ¤ Nomination period from now until 13 September ¤ Current Chair standing down, current Vice Chairs all eligible for re-election ¤ Nominations as well as self-nominations are possible ¤ More than one candidate for Chair or more than five candidates for Vice Chairs lead to need for elections ¤ If elections are needed, the proposal is to use an online tool | 49

  3. Nominations ¤ Nominations should be made by email to gac- staff@icann.org - preferably copying the GAC ¤ Staff will send an email confirmation that the nomination has been duly noted ¤ If relevant, staff will also verify that the nominee is willing to stand for election ¤ When the nomination period has closed, staff will inform the GAC by email about the list of nominees for the open positions – and clarify whether elections are necessary. | 50

  4. Elections ¤ If elections are needed, an online system “Tally” will be used – the GNSO has used it for more than 6 years for elections and for voting on documents ¤ The system is based on the electorate being identified by its email addresses ¤ Default assumption that the first name with its listed email address on the website entry for the GAC Member is the one that should vote for the Member ¤ Important that all GAC Members check their entries and notify gac-staff@icann.org if another listed individual and/or another email address be used. ¤ Staff will confirm receipt of such notifications by email. | 4

  5. Elections – Illustration ¤ In order to show how the online system “Tally” functions, we have arranged an imaginary election of one Conductor of the GAC Choir – and five Deputy Conductors of the same choir. ¤ We were fortunate enough to get three eminent candidates for the Conductor role, notably J.S Bach, A. Vivaldi and G.F. Handel ¤ We were equally fortunate to get no less than seven great candidates for the Deputy Conductor Role, notably M. Jagger, C. Aznavour, K. Jones, V. Mae, J.Sibelius, B. Marley and S. Twain ¤ In this situation, it is clear that elections are needed – the next slides will show how this will happen | 5
