What Could Go Wrong in the Frontal Lobe?

  • Injury to the head, infections, cerebrovascular event, neoplasm, degenerative

disorders may cause frontal lobe syndrome

  • Dorsolateral Frontal Lesions cause apathy, changes in personality, abulia,

lack of ability to plan a sequence of tasks, if left hemisphere is affected than poor memory for verbal information, and if the right hemisphere is affected than poor memory for spatial information

  • Frontal Operculum Lesions if affects left side then it causes defective verb

retrieval, and broca aphasia, and if the right side is affected than the lesions can cause expressive aprosodia.

Schizophrenia

  • Scientists believe that people with schizophrenia have reduced grey matter in

their brain in the temporal and frontal regions.

  • Symptoms include hallucinations, delusions, strange and psychotic thoughts,

hearing voices, and depression. People often are not aware that something is wrong and will refuse treatment because it is thought that the part of the brain that controls self awareness is harmed.
