Biology Club Lab 1
Frontal Lobe: Thinking and processing, memory, behavior Parietal Lobe: Language, spatial Occipital Lobe: Visual information Temporal Lobe: Language, auditory Brain Stem: Regulates autonomous functions (breathing, heart rate, body temp) Cerebellum: Balance & movement Motor Cortex (Frontal Lobe): Voluntary movement Sensory Cortex (Parietal Love): Processing sensations
Olfactory bulbs: processes sense of smell Optic chiasm: connects brain to eye; blind spot where optic nerves travel toward the chasm
Thalamus: relays sensory and motor information (except smell), sleep regulation and alertness Hypothalamus: hormone production, regulates body functions (hunger, sleep, mood, temperature…), controls pituitary gland, part of endocrine & limbic systems
Hippocampus: memory, long-term memory formation, spatial navigation, emotion - damage to this area can result in inability to form new memories Amygdala: fear, aggression, anxiety, and arousal, associated with fear conditioning, responsible for related emotional responses
