  2. “Enhancement may be about doing things better, but it is also about doing better things.” (Professor Sir Lewis Elton)

  3. VASC (Validation and Periodic Review) • Why have a framework? • What is a framework? • What’s in it? • How is it used?

  4. Emphasis: “Students are at the heart of the University Mission.” White Paper ‘Students at the Heart of the System’ (2011)

  5. EHU Taught Degree Frameworks: • Are “Enabling yet constraining” • “Focus on what matters” • “Are derived from evidence bases (SoTL) and outcomes from numerous QA and reflective process”

  6. What do the frameworks consist of? • A series of ‘lenses’ (Common to UG and PG) • Each lens is a series of questions which must be addressed. • i.e.In curriculum design, in validation and in Periodic Review

  7. Framework Lenses (UG and PG Commonality) 1. Graduate attributes 2. Inductions and transitions 3. Teaching, Learning and Assessment including 4. Personal tutoring 5. Personal Development Planning 6. Learning Literacies 7. Work-Related and Work-Based Learning 8. Technology-Enhanced Learning and Distance Learning 9. Employability 10. International Dimensions 11. Education for Sustainable Development

  8. Activity: • Browse lenses and questions • Are the lenses the right ones? • Are the questions the right ones? • Note any questions and/or concerns you have (N.B. forthcoming review and opportunity to feed into process)

  9. Each lens has a set of enabling yet constraining questions to respond to (see AQDU web pages): http://www.edgehill.ac.uk/aqdu/section-1-design- requirements/udf-the-student-learning-experience/ Each then has challenges and expectations of key aspects of each lens that must be considered

  10. Framework Wiki (Guidance, resources, exemplars – real stuff) • Location https://go.edgehill.ac.uk/display/ufr/Home • Brief tour • If time - Note 3 things that you like

  11. Next Steps • Thoughts I now have about things I will do in the future • Share
