Our journey so far

Aboriginal heritage is important to the Forrestfield-Airport Link project and it has been a key element of its planning. Through construction, this will remain a priority. Desktop heritage investigation On-site consultation with Aboriginal spokespersons On-going design process will seek to further reduce impacts to heritage values Project Noongar Artwork aims to describe the project through the eyes of Indigenous Western Australians. Project specific Reconciliation Action Plan – a first for WA Indigenous employee- trainee within project adds to PTA targets Project specific Engagement Strategy

Arriving at employment targets

Instead of ‘best endeavours’ this is the first project specifying targets as part of the contract. Guided by the Aboriginal Economic Participation Strategy 2012-2016- one of a number of the Government’s ‘Closing the Gap’ initiatives. The project has set a new standard for real targets in employment and spend with Aboriginal business.

slide-11
SLIDE 11

Central to the project’s Aboriginal Engagement Strategy are the following requirements, specified in the contract documentation:

  • 2% minimum Aboriginal employment (of total work hours)
  • $15 million minimum spend with Aboriginal businesses
  • A further $25 million minimum spend opportunities via

invitations to tender

Targets- employment and business spend

We wish to leave a legacy for future WA projects to set real targets in their contracts and to continue to improve on all aspects of Aboriginal engagement.
