Item 5 Appendix 1 Exemptions • an establishment where the sale of food is not the primary activity of the establishment; and the only food made available to consumers is food that is shelf stable at ambient temperature and wrapped or packaged before it is brought to the establishment and the wrapping or packaging remains sealed at all times before the food is supplied to consumers; e.g. Visitor centres, vending machines, newsagents, chemists • an establishment used for the purpose of providing caring services where the establishment is also used as a private dwelling e.g. Childminders www.bridgend.gov.uk

  7. Item 5 Appendix 1 Scoring • Rating can only be given after full inspection. • Rating must reflect conditions found at time of inspection. 3 elements to rating :- 1. Food hygiene and safety procedures 2. Structural requirements 3. Confidence in management www.bridgend.gov.uk

  8. Item 5 Appendix 1 What do the Scores Mean? • 0 Urgent improvement necessary • 1 Major improvement necessary • 2 Improvement necessary • 3 Generally satisfactory • 4 Good • 5 Very good These definitions are on the sticker www.bridgend.gov.uk

  9. Item 5 Appendix 1 Notification of Rating Within 14 days of inspection (including weekends and bank holidays) • Letter detailing Schedule A - works required to meet highest rating Schedule B - recommendations • Accompanied by sticker • Leaflet. www.bridgend.gov.uk

  10. Item 5 Appendix 1 Appeals • Must be made in writing within 21 days of receipt of notification. • Decision must be determined and communicated within 21 days of receipt of appeal. www.bridgend.gov.uk

  11. Item 5 Appendix 1 Grounds for Appeal • That the rating does not properly reflect the food hygiene standards at the establishment at the time of the inspection, or, • that the rating criteria were not applied correctly when producing the food hygiene rating. www.bridgend.gov.uk

Item 5 Appendix 1 Request for rescore Not deemed to have been duly made unless: •Submitted on the standard form •any appeal against the current rating has been determined •the operator has notified the authority of the necessary improvements that have been made at the establishment •the authority considers it reasonable to inspect and re-assess the establishment, taking into account the improvements that have been made •the current rating sticker is displayed at the establishment •the FBO has agreed to give access to the authority in order to carry out the inspection. •The fee has been paid- £150 www.bridgend.gov.uk

Item 5 Appendix 1 Request for rescore cont. • Can be submitted at any time • Can submit as many requests as wish • Inspection must be completed within 3 months of receipt and must be unannounced • If refused must explain why and permit submission of additional info • Notification of the outcome of inspection must be made within 14 days of inspection www.bridgend.gov.uk

Item 5 Appendix 1 Sec 11- Display of Ratings FBOs must display prescribed form of sticker at each entrance:- • on a window that forms part of the relevant entrance; or • on an exterior window that is adjacent to the relevant entrance; or • inside the establishment but capable of being read through such a window; or • if there is no such window, at some other place at or near the relevant entrance(s); or • where there is no surface available that is suitable for display, on a wall or other surface where it is capable of being easily read by customers www.bridgend.gov.uk

Item 5 Appendix 1 Sec 9 offences for which fixed penalty notices may be issued and fines imposed Failure to display sticker in location and • manner prescribed; Display of an invalid sticker; • Failure to retain a valid sticker; • Parting with possession of a sticker to any • person (other than an authorised officer) On request, failing to advise of the rating • On request, giving false or misleading info about • the rating intentionally altering, defacing or tampering with • sticker other than for removing it www.bridgend.gov.uk
