Background

  • Recreation impacts brought up as a concern at the TMC
  • Variable late winter flows will affect winter fishing season.
  • Summer impacts will continue to be similar but need to be

evaluated as well

Recreational Uses

  • Winter (Oct to April)

– Bank Fishing

  • ??????

– Boat Fishing

  • Summer (May-Sept)

– Bank Fishing

  • Boat Fishing

– Rafting

  • Swimming/Camping

– ?????

Winter Recreation

  • Fishing (tapers off in March and more so in April)
  • No significant amount of rafting or other uses
  • Boat fishing has extensive use through February with less in

March and very little in April

  • Bank fishing limited significantly by flow rates
slide-5
SLIDE 5

Winter Recreation Impact Estimate (boat fishing)

  • Impacts from flow changes based on month and fishing type
  • Any day with a significant flow increase through February

would be an impact of (1)

  • Any day with a significant flow increase in March would be an

impact of (0.75)

  • Any day with significant flow increase in April would be an

impact of (0.25)

  • Flow decreases would be an impact of half the increasing

impact for that time period, i.e. (February would be 0.5)

slide-6
SLIDE 6

Winter Recreation Impact Estimate (Wade fishing)

  • Similar to boat fishing with the exception that at any flow

above 750 cfs creates a impact of (1) regardless of month

slide-7
SLIDE 7

Winter Recreation Impact Estimate (Combining Results)

  • Boat fishing is 75% of total use
  • Combining the results will create a number to use to compare

the proposed hydrographs impacts on recreation.

Winter Recreation Impact Analysis Critical Dry Year

  • Alt 1 = 11.7
  • Alt 6 = 16.4
  • Alt 7 = 16.3
  • Alt 8 = 14.9

Summer Recreation impact analysis

  • Working with Aaron Martin to determine fishing impacts.
  • Requesting TAMWG assistance with input on other recreation

issues.

  • Contacting local businesses i.e. lodge in Lewiston to determine

summer flow impacts if they very from ROD flows.

  • Very much still under construction.
