FHS Program Participant Breakdown Grade Level # of Students 9 th grade 19 There were students enrolled in the summer program from districts outside of Fitzgerald Public Schools. 10 th grade 20 The students’ home districts/schools were: 11 th grade 25 • Utica Schools/ Henry Ford II • Warren Consolidated/ Warren Mott 12 th grade 8 Total Number 72 * Total includes students currently attending Fitzgerald Virtual High School.

WIOA Michigan Works Young Professionals @ FHS June 22 – July 30, 2015; 7:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (5 days/week) 16 Eligible Macomb County Foster Youth/Fitzgerald Students Participated Work Readiness Skills The program was designed to provide Foster Youth/Fitzgerald students with an opportunity to work and learn necessary skills, work habits, and attitudes to succeed in today’s workplace. The students learned and developed essential economic and personal finance skills, interpersonal skills, and teamwork skills as well as personal responsibility and accountability. Administered locally by the Macomb/St. Clair Workforce Development Board, Inc.

WIOA Funded (Staff/Real Life Learning Experiences/Supplies) The project was funded through the Workforce Investment Opportunity Act and the efforts of the Macomb/St. Clair Workforce Development Board. Program Director – Tammy Findlay Supervisor - Jeff Bruni Community partners : Extra Credit Union, Michigan State Extension To explore the beginning stages of Automotive Technician Training, to encourage participants to pursue a career in an area that interest them. To improve the long term prospects of our youth by providing: • Basic Skills – reading, writing, mathematics, listening and speaking • Work Readiness Skills – example: how to change oil/then change oil • Job Keeping Skills – understanding of employer’s expectations • Occupational Skills – Knowledge and skills for “auto” • AOCA Technician Certification Supplies – equipment and hands on materials to complete tasks in a professional and real world setting.

  11. Additional WIA Summer Information The project was funded through the Workforce Investment Act Administered locally by the and the efforts of the Macomb/St. Clair Workforce Development Board. Macomb/St. Clair Workforce Development Board, Inc. • 16 students participated in the auto program. • 11 Fitzgerald students – 5 Macomb County Foster Youth. • The total amount of hours the WIOA Youth worked was 2250 hours and were paid $8.15 per hour earning a total of $10,337. • The average student made an estimated $1,369.00 during the six week program. • 5 students earned ½ credit for completing 135+ hours of employment • All students were given the educational opportunity to participate in an off site field trip which included a college campus visit.

  18. ESL Summer Camp for Immigrant Students Cont. Content/Focus • Increase oral language proficiency through vocabulary building activities • Fieldtrip parent participation to promote family involvement Parent Involvement • Parents were invited to attend all 4 fieldtrips. • They visited the classrooms and watched their students’ presentations. • They received weekly updates on their students learning Progress Made • Students were given pre and post test on content related vocabulary words. • All students made progress. Average increase between pre and post assessments: low el: 48% ,upper el and middle school: 12%
