18

slide-19
SLIDE 19

Though we didn’t expect it,

We found a big amount of deposit in their e-money accounts(2013).

19

slide-20
SLIDE 20

20

  • Villagers told us that they don’t have any place for

“safe saving” and they do need a place for “safe saving”.

  • Without our services, they have to dig holes to hide

their cash.

slide-21
SLIDE 21

No Electricity No Bank

  • 70% of population(18 million) is living in rural area.
  • Only 1.7% have access to electricity in rural area.

21

slide-22
SLIDE 22

We have Mobile Phones!!

  • Even without national grid, our partner Movitel has started their

mobile phone services from 2012 and is still an only provider in rural area of Moz.

22

“Stone “ Stone Money of Yap “Tally” Exchequer Tallies of England “Mobile Phone” Mobile Money of Mozambique

Money is System. System of credit and clearing. Not currency.

slide-23
SLIDE 23

Mobile Money has big impact!

Still have some points to be improved.

  • It’s for money transfer.
  • Not for saving, not for lending.
  • Less than 3% of Mobile Money is used for usual payment at real shop.
  • Without POS system Mobile Money cannot record contents of

consumptions.

  • Mobile money servicers cannot lend money (in Moz).
  • Hence, money of the people is still sleeping under the ground not

flowing into society.

23

slide-24
SLIDE 24

Establishing a NEW BANK

  • We have agreed to invest together with Movitel and FARE(2015).
  • Movitel is Vietnamese Gov.
  • FARE is Moz Gov.
  • We will apply for commercial bank license. As microbank license

doesn’t allow us to open saving accounts at least for first 6 months. Micro Banks are expected to start from lending.

24

slide-25
SLIDE 25

Concepts

  • Saving first and lending next.
  • Commercial banks never lend money without checking companies

financial statement. Banks know how much sales come in and for what they use money.

  • It should be same for rural farmers.
  • Firstly we record how much and from what they earn and for what

they use.

  • Secondly we do scoring.
  • Thirdly we decide credit for each.

25

slide-26
SLIDE 26

Collaboration with Micro Finance Institute

  • We can provide individual information.
  • What kind of crops the farmer grow, how was production quantities,

how is his credit score etc.

  • We can provide settlement system for rural area. Staffs of MFI don’t

need to visit when customers refund well by using mobile phones or NFC.
