Exceptional Pediatric Surgeon Opportunity in Orlando (2 Openings)
The Division of General Surgery, Department of Surgery at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando, Florida is currently seeking additional BC/BE Pediatric Surgeons to join the three-person team. Candidates seeking a unique opportunity to build something of their own while joining an already strong surgery practice in Central Florida will enjoy being a part of this team. All applicants who have trauma experience and/or interest in chest wall deformities, minimally invasive procedures, anal/rectal malformations, and fetal care program development among other potential specialties are encouraged to apply. Academic appointments are available to a number of academic institutions including Florida State, University of Central Florida, University of South Florida, and Florida Polytech based on academic interest of the applicant. There are also outstanding research opportunities, both clinical and laboratory based, that exist through both Nemours and its academic affiliates. Research personnel support, financial support and protected time are available for clinical and basic science research pursuits. Candidates interested in outcomes research would enjoy Nemours’ clinical volume and available collaborative enterprise institutional database. About the Pediatric General Surgery Team at Nemours Children’s Hospital As the Chair of the Department of Surgery at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Dr. Adela Casas-Melley is focused on building the size and scope of the pediatric surgical program, not only in Orlando, but also for the nation. Prior to Nemours, Dr. Casas-Melley was the chief of pediatric surgery and medical director of the Level II trauma center at Sanford Children’s Hospital in South Dakota, as well as professor of surgery at the University Of South Dakota Sanford School Of Medicine. She earned her medical degree and completed a residency in general surgery at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, followed by a fellowship in pediatric surgery at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia. Due to her experience in complex liver procedures and transplantation, she has been able to perform the Kasai procedure for babies born with biliary atresia. The division also offers total colectomies with pouches for children with familial adenomatous polyposis and for those with forms of colitis.
- Dr. Casas-Melley is now working to grow the general surgery division at Nemours Children’s Hospital,
where she is recruiting two or three surgeons to join herself, Tamarah J. Westmoreland, MD, PhD and Cynthia Reyes, MD. She is working to grow not only the number of surgeons, but also the complexity of cases they take on.
