  12. Milestone Contribution to Sector Rob Strange Award 2015

  13. Follow-up Research Waste Collection and MSDs – January 2019 Research shows UK waste collection systems causing significant musculoskeletal issues for workers • Research led by the University of Greenwich and published by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) examines musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) arising out of different recycling and waste collection systems. • The study identified lower back, shoulder, neck and upper spine as areas of the body where self-reported pain was highest. • It suggests wheeled bin-based waste management services are associated with fewer MSD outcomes than services including boxes, baskets and bags. • The study recommends Local Authorities should discontinue ‘box type’ collections on MSD grounds as a matter of urgency. • With an ageing workforce, the working population is increasingly likely to suffer from MSDs.
