Stage 1:

The SALSA leaders decided to improve the healthy environment and quality of learning for students by implementing a device that will improve student wellbeing. We have decided to install a water bottle refill station in our school. Before we purchased one we considered many factors to suit the purpose of ‘the school action plan’. These factors included:

  • Accessibility for all students and staff
  • Cost
  • Placement
  • Installation
  • Filtered Water

Considering these factors we began researching for the appropriate water refill station, we came up with two options.

This plan was not only to raise money but to introduce healthier options for students. To prepare these healthy meals and snacks all SALSA leaders participated in an all day incursion preparing the healthy meals for the following day.

The fruit store was a SUCCESS and we raised a total of $403 and made a profit of $150.

This fruit store was taken as a learning experience. To make more profit we concluded that purchasing in season fruits and bulk buying plastic items would decrease the total amount of money spent for the fruit store. This can allow us to raise more money.

Stage 3:

Since the Erskine Park SALSA representatives decided to purchase a water refill station we decided to create a water bottle to provide students with. This can impact the environment by reducing the amount of plastic usage used throughout the school community, also allows students to stay hydrated throughout the day. It will increase student water intake throughout the day, and reduce the amount of soft drinks purchased at the canteen.
