Remediated Nitrate Salts

60 Remediated Nitrate Salt (RNS) drums are stored at Area G Fiscal Year 2016 Accomplishments

Extensive fire mitigation efforts were conducted around Area G Pressure relief devices (PRDs) were installed on the RNS drums A treatment plan for the RNS drums and 29 Un-remediated Nitrate Salt (UNS) drums was developed

Fiscal Year 2017 Planned Activities

Treat the 60 RNS drums and 29 UNS drums Treatment of the RNS drums is scheduled to start in spring of 2017 Treatment of the UNS will follow the treatment of the RNS

3 Workers installed PRDs on the RNS drums in the spring of 2016. The treatment process for the RNS is practiced and refined.

Historical Properties Completion Campaign

Contaminated soil was placed in double-lined waste bags

Workers prepare a sealed bag of contaminated soil for transportation

7

Fiscal Year 2016 Accomplishments

Contaminated soil was removed from four legacy sites along the south-facing slopes of Los Alamos Canyon adjacent to the Los Alamos Townsite All but a few of the original 229 sites in Upper Los Alamos Canyon still require cleanup

Fiscal Year 2017 Planned Activities

Sampling and cleanup of the remaining sites in and adjacent to the Los Alamos Townsite Initiate risk assessments and investigation reports
