  • 2. UGC Categorization with Hashtag
slide-12
SLIDE 12
  • Although UGCs from SNSs provide “the richest and

most timely datasets,” the first step is finding the way to “utilize and analyze” them fully. (Taylor, 2012)

  • Should be categorized by specific tool
  • Normally it requires unique softwares to categorize data
  • It is very hard to get meaningful data from UGC easily

→ Hashtag

slide-14
SLIDE 14
  • Hashtag: Tagging function in SNS with ‘#’ symbol
  • It can be a keyword to separate specific topic from SNS
  • Various SNSs have hashtag function

Seoul National University, Doyoung Ahn

slide-15
SLIDE 15
  • Very easy to create
  • No additional tool is required to gather UGC
  • Everyone can use and it does not require additional charge

  • Choose efficient keywords to manage
  • Encourage park visitors to use given hashtags with picture

✴With hashtag, a short explanation and picture are required ✴Added picture helps to understand correct situation and place ✴Location Tag is not required: limited too broad level

  • Collect UGC with each hashtag and analyze them for enhancement

  • Total 40 people volunteered (May 1 ~ May 20, 3 weeks)
  • Given hashtags were #Seoulforest_Maintenance,

#Seoulforest_Cleaning, and #Seoulforest_Suggestion (in Korean)

  • After they upload contents, they got short questionaries about

this research again

#Seoulforest_Maintenance #Seoulforest_Suggestion #Seoulforest_Clean

When visitors find old

  • r broken facilities

such as light pole, safety fence, etc. When visitors feel uncomfortableness by some reason in the park When visitors find too much dirty or messy place

  • 5. Conclusion
slide-39
SLIDE 39
  • People could contribute

their opinions more comfortably.

  • Through real-time

explanation and pictures, the park authority could get more detail feedback.

  • Meaningful UGCs could

be separated from social big data easily.

  • Entry barrier is still high to elder

people.

  • Due to privacy issue, some people

do not like to share their contents for public.

  • Hashtag function cannot organize

all contents perfectly yet.

  • Detail location tagging function is

required for reliable location search.

Seoul National University, Doyoung Ahn

slide-40
SLIDE 40
  • Although the study could make entry barrier of contributing

UGC, still there are various limitations such as age barrier, privacy issue, lack of base knowledge about hashtag, etc.

  • However, the study could find clear possibilities in utilizing UGC

for park maintenance; fast feedback, detail problem configuration, user participation, etc.

  • There is still much to learn about how to best apply UGC

utilization in park maintenance, and further, landscape architecture, too.
