1.) After discovering the Vermiculite we sit down with the client explain about the potential hazards
- f the Vermiculite and determine if they are
interested in proceeding with our work if we can fund the project. 2.)I than will take a sample of the Vermiculite and pre-photos to send to the Zonolite Trust Fund for
- testing. Approximately 3 to 6 weeks to get
something back from Zonolite letting us know if it is eligible for the fund. Most jobs $4125.00.
3.) After we have confirmation from Zonolite Trust we contact the abatement contractors to get a cost for the removal of the Vermiculite. Average cost for complete abatement of our attics have been $9500.00. 4.) Once the abatement is complete we inspect the work take our post photos and get the job sent to our weatherization area coordinator so they can insulate the home.
ROUND #1: GO
STAY AWAY DENY RUN TEST LITERALLY EVERYTHING …LITERALLY… EVERYTHING
Addition of contractors that could
address limited Asbestos issues as well as the larger Vermiculite concerns
Clarification on practices within the state
regarding working in and around vermiculite
Limited, but achievable…
- No abatement
- No blower door testing
- No entering area with vermiculite
Clients rarely can afford loans (not viable) All asbestos contractors are not created
equal
Vermiculite adds complexity, and duration
- f the job.
Client education and involvement is critical Takes significant staff time (Eff. Coach)
New approaches to treat a home. “Hybrid
approach” can cut cost.
New funding sources. Leveraging Zonolite Trust is huge. Supportive and helpful partners (State,
Agencies, VT Dep of Health, VHCB, VLITE, ZAI)
We have Wx’d over 75 homes in the last 4 years that
- therwise would have been
deferred!
