Did you know the Grand canyon is in Arizona? I am doing research on the state of Arizona and I am going to tell you all about it.Do you know what the largest city is? Phoenix! Phoenix is also the capital of Arizona. Arizona has a population of 6,500,180 people. Did you know Arizona has 15 counties with 3 major cities: Phoenix, Tucson, and Prescott. My state is surrounded by:Utah, Nevada,California,New Mexico,and colorado.

Physical Description

Now we will discuss the physical description of the state. Arizona's area is 114,008 square miles. There are two large rivers named the Colorado River and the Little Colorado River. There are also large lakes named Lake Mead and Lake Havasu. The highest point is 12,633 feet.

State Symbols and Emblems

Now I will tell you about the state symbols and

  • emblems. Did you know Arizona came from the

spanish version, Arizuma. It also came from a Pima Indian word Arizonac, meaning "little spring place." The state flag was adopted in 1917. The state nickname is the Grand Canyon State.Do you know what the Arizona State Bird is? It is the Cactus Wren. Arizona also has a state mammal. It is a Ringtail. A Ringtail is a fox like lemur. It was adopted in 1986. The Arizona State amphibian is the Arizona tree frog. There is also a state flower called the Saguaro Cactus Blossom.

Now we will talk about the state's history. Three big events in Arizona's State history are, when the U.S. fought Mexico in the Mexican war. Arizona also became part of New Mexico's territory. Finally Arizona also was admitted to the U.S. in 1912.

Places to Visit

Arizona would be a great place to visit because of the Grand Canyon. It is the largest gorge on earth. It was formed by the fast- flowing waters of the Colorado River, which have worn away the rock over millions of

  • years. A cool fact is that the Grand Canyon can be

seen from outer space. There was a skywalk built

  • ver the Grand Canyon in 2007. The bottom of the

skywalk is glass, so you can see the Colorado River 4,000 feet below. There is a waterfall in the Grand Canyon named Havasu Falls. It is famous for the blue green color.
