Agriculture & Rural Communities Energy Roadmap • Project based on the premise that agriculture and rural customers are underserved by the energy programs and policies in M ichigan • Importance of Agriculture to M ichigan – Produce over 300 commodities – 2 nd most diverse state in the US – Production valued at $8.1 billion annually – Employs 923,000 people – 22% of state employment • Rural customers represent 20.6% of total population in M ichigan and over 90% of land area 8

Agriculture & Rural Communities Energy Roadmap • Establishing a baseline – Develop an inventory of current energy efficiency and renewable energy policies and programs – Baseline assessment of these policies and programs – Interviews with 40 +stakeholders • Assess the effectiveness of existing policies and current programs and benchmark against other programs • Development of roadmap – Stakeholders participated in development of recommendations and action plan for policies and programs 9
