  • 1. Quantity and size of individual spaces in the Ed Specs was determined using a variety of

input that included:

  • a. Arlington Career Center and Department of Teaching and Learning leaders
  • b. Guidelines from the Virginia Department of Education
  • c. Comparable facilities provided at other APS high schools
  • d. Current best design practices for similar schools/programs
  • e. Lessons learned from recent projects
  • 2. Space program assumes that undersized and/or inefficient spaces within the existing building

will be improved to reflect current requirements

  • 3. Refinements to the space program will occur as part of the typical design process; which

includes detailed floor plan review by staff at Arlington Career Center and Department of Teaching and Learning

RECOMMENDATIONS

Staff recommend the School Board take the following actions:

  • Approve the Arlington Career

Center Expansion Educational Specifications document dated November 6, 2019 attached to this presentation.

  • Direct staff to provide an update
  • n the Ed Specs (highlighting any

refinements) concurrent with the proposed Concept Design in March 2020.
