Do you have Peer Support Workers in your EIP team?

Yes 33% No 67%

SUDW (salaried) STR (salaried) PSW (unsalaried) Former SU volunteer (unsalaried) Former SU volunteer

slide-11
SLIDE 11

We have in the past & currently have a volunteering scheme which we encourage former service users to

  • consider. Examples of

how this has worked include a SU co- facilitating the drama therapy group. We have one PSW that has just completed her training & should be starting with us soon. We have focussed on volunteers. 4 SUDW posts & we’re also developing a peer support role in collaboration with local employment/IPS services to create development

  • pportunities in the

workplace for existing SUs of MH Services. No peer support workers but 1 volunteer that was a SU previously with the team. We have one ex-service user who would define himself as “an expert by experience”. Currently 2 ex-service users in full time employment in the team.

Do you have Peer Support Workers in your EIP team?

slide-12
SLIDE 12

What do we do?

One voluntary Peer Support Mentor who is a peer to current clients to support them accessing services & community resources. This may include sharing personal knowledge / stories of mental distress. 8 volunteers to support social inclusion activities The STR worker generally supports care co-ordinators in delivery of agreed plans of care facilitate group interactions however the ex-service users STR worker has an ability to use personal experience disclosures to generate a sense of hope and

  • ptimism to promote active engagement

Our 4 SUDW’s are split between development & involvement activities and support work e.g. collecting and collating feedback from SUs, promoting the services, audit and research, developing recovery stories, service governance, participation and involvement activities. All act as support workers too, working alongside SUs. From our onset we employed service users within the capacity of Care Co-ordinators and as STR workers.
